Student Involvement and Investment Opportunities
DANCE AND GUEST GUIDELINES
Chalmette High School is committed to providing safe, fun, and inclusive school-sponsored dances for all eligible students. To maintain a positive environment, the following guidelines must be followed:
Student Eligibility
- Attendance: Only currently enrolled Chalmette High School students in good standing are permitted to attend dances.
- Discipline: Students with two or more suspensions during the current school year are not eligible to attend any school-sponsored dances, including Homecoming and Prom.
- Debts: Students must not have any outstanding school debts, including but not limited to fees for replacement IDs, Chromebooks, lost books, uniforms, or equipment.
Guest Policy
Each Chalmette High School student may bring one guest to designated dances, subject to the following rules:
- Guests must be currently enrolled in high school or be a high school graduate under the age of 21. No guests over the age of 20 will be permitted.
- Guests must present a valid school ID (or government-issued ID if a graduate) upon entry.
- All guests must complete and return a Dance Guest Form, signed by their school administrator and a parent/guardian, by the specified deadline.
- Chalmette High students are responsible for the behavior of their guests and may face disciplinary action if their guest violates school rules.
General Rules
- All school rules, including dress code and code of conduct, apply during dances—both on and off campus.
- Students and guests may be subject to random security checks at the entrance.
- No refunds will be given for students or guests removed from the event due to rule violations.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in denied entry or removal from the event. Students with questions about eligibility should contact the main office or an administrator in advance.
DRIVER EDUCATION
Driver Education credit will be granted only to those students who complete the St. Bernard Parish School Board Driver Education Program or similar programs offered by accredited secondary schools. (Proprietary schools have not been designated the approved status by the State Department of Education required for the granting of Carnegie units.)
EXTRA-CURRICULAR/ATHLETIC EVENTS
Students may NOT participate in extracurricular/athletic events after school if they are not present for at least half of the school day. Students who have three suspensions are not allowed to participate in athletics and/or extra-curricular events.
FIELD TRIP POLICY
Field trips can be an important part of the instructional and enrichment programs. When opportunities are available, students must have an acceptable behavior and attendance record and debts must be cleared. In order to attend field trips, a student must have permission from administration, classroom teachers, and a parent/guardian.
Student Eligibility Requirements
Students must meet all of the following criteria to attend any school-sponsored field trip:
- Discipline: Students with habitual Class I Referrals and/or one or more suspensions during the current school year are not eligible to participate in field trips.
- Attendance: Students must have no more than seven total absences and/or no more than seven tardies in the current semester at the time of the field trip.
- Debts: Students must not have any outstanding school debts, including but not limited to fees for replacement IDs, Chromebooks, lost books, uniforms, or equipment.
Additional Guidelines
- All school rules and behavior expectations apply during field trips, including dress code, conduct, and attendance policies.
- Students who break the rules will have consequences upon their return to school.
- Students must return all required permission forms by the stated deadlines. Late submissions may result in ineligibility.
- Teachers and administrators reserve the right to remove any student from a field trip due to academic, behavioral, or attendance concerns.
Participation in field trips is a privilege. Students who do not meet the above requirements may be excluded, and no refunds will be issued for disqualification based on ineligibility.
LHSAA SCHOLASTIC ELIGIBILITY RULE
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association is comprised of over 400 Louisiana schools. One of its purposes is to protect members of the Association by preparing and enforcing eligibility rules that will equalize and stimulate wholesome competition. It is the responsibility of every athlete to know the LHSAA residence and scholastic rules and to promote sportsmanship. Every athlete must pass scheduled courses and maintain the necessary grade point average in order to participate in any interscholastic contest. Throughout the year athletes are advised of these specific academic requirements.
To be academically eligible for the second semester, a student athlete must earn at least 3 credits at the end of the first semester.
To be academically eligible for the next school year (fall semester) a student athlete must earn at least 6 credits at the end of the second semester with at least a 1.5 grade point average.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR CLASS/CLUB OFFICER/ANNUAL TITLES NOMINEES
A student must have earned a cumulative 2.0 grade point average to be an officer/nominee. While an officer, the student must maintain a 2.0 average and pass a minimum of 3 out of 4 classes per semester. A candidate must also have a satisfactory attendance and disciplinary record. Sponsors have the discretion to mandate higher qualifications for officers and/or membership credentials.
SENIOR RING DAY AND SENIOR PROM
A Chalmette High School student is allowed to participate in Ring Day and/or Senior Prom if the student is a member of the graduating cohort. Seniors must have 18 full credits, and three year graduates must have necessary paperwork completed to participate in Ring Day. A student is allowed to participate in only one Ring Day ceremony. All debts must be cleared in order to participate in Ring Day and purchase a Senior Prom ticket. Students or their dates may not have two suspensions in the current academic year to participate in Ring Day or Senior Prom.
